Trachospray op WAMM 2019

November 2019 -  Medspray Anesthesia at World Airway Management Meeting

dr. Geert-Jan van Geffen presented the the in-vitro comparative study with the Trachospray, an aerosol soft mist spray device, delivering just a small fraction of the aerosol to the lungs and mainly covering the mucosa of mouth and throat, down to the vocal cords.
The topical anesthesia is needed to make intubation or bronchoscopy tolerable for the patient. Current practice, a spray pump, followed by an elongated spray tube, requires skill and often uses different concentrations of the anesthetizing liquid. The ‘Trachospray’ device delivers the local anesthesia evenly over the patients oropharyngeal mucosa.
The ‘Trachospray’ device is easy to use and easy to teach. The medical professional prepares a syringe with an anesthetic, approved for oropharyngeal delivery and connects the syringe to the device.
The patient is asked to take slow aspirations through the mouth using the devices’ mouthpiece, while the medical professional empties the the syringe.
